Working together

We want everyone who works at or with Microsoft to be safe and healthy. That’s why we ask employees to be aware of any risks presented by the tasks they perform at Microsoft. This way, employees can plan how to do their work safely and avoid any potential hazards. This applies to all people who work at our sites, including those directly employed by Microsoft and any contract or temporary workers employed by a third party. Occupational medicine

Medical examinations

In Bulgaria, preliminary and periodic medical examinations are mandatory for employees as part of the country’s occupational health and safety regulations. These exams help mitigate occupational health risks and ensure a safe working environment for employees.

Preliminary examination

New employees are required to visit their general practitioner for a preliminary medical examination prior to their start date and obtain a medical certificate. Each new employee must submit this certificate to Microsoft no later than their first day of employment. Employees should contact AskHR to submit documentation.

Periodic examination

Preventive periodic medical checks are mandatory. These checks, which include eye exams, are covered via medical provider Bulgaria Zdrave. Employees can schedule an appointment directly through its website.

Medical examination outcomes

Regarding employees’ medical examinations, Microsoft receives only their fitness to work outcomes: “fit,” “fit with restrictions,” or “not fit.” In cases where the result is “not fit” or “fit with restrictions,” AskHR coordinates the appropriate next steps directly with the employee and the employee’s manager.

Privacy and records

All employees’ medical records are confidential and remain with their medical providers. Microsoft does not receive any diagnostic information from employees’ medical examinations, only their fitness to work outcomes (i.e., “fit,” “fit with restrictions,” or “not fit”). These outcomes are managed in accordance with our global policy and applicable legal requirements.

Local reporting requirements 

To foster a culture of health and safety at Microsoft, employees, interns, and external staff are required to report all work-related accidents, injuries, and illnesses via  SafetyHub Report. Learn more on the Microsoft Global OHS  reporting  page. 

Local training

New employee health and safety training

New employee health and safety training and workplace training are conducted on Viva Learning.

After employees and managers complete trainings, they will be asked to sign the corresponding training logbooks in accordance with Bulgarian legal regulations. Signatures will be collected on physical documents.

Periodic health and safety training

Periodic health and safety training is conducted annually during a designated week, during which all Microsoft employees refresh their knowledge of OHS procedures. All employees are required to attend periodic training and sign the corresponding training logbook. Employees receive advance notification of training sessions and schedules.

Microsoft employees returning from a leave of absence exceeding 45 days are also required to attend periodic training.
